"Whenever I look at your eyes, I have to catch my breath and remember you’re actually mine."

 September 18th, 2016—the day we met. I followed through on some plans I made with this weird girl I spoke to on an online dating app. She was weird because she did not follow the norms of dating app etiquette. Typically, you talk to a girl for days, sometimes weeks, before you set up an actual in-person date. This was not Holly’s way. Holly asked me to dinner in her very first message. I was quite taken aback by such a bold move and knew I needed to meet this girl, so I agreed to dinner. 

It was storming that day, and she texted to ask if I still wanted to meet (she had no idea I’d driven through tornado weather more than once and a little rain was nothing to me). I told myself that after I met her, I was going to take things easy and focus on myself for awhile because dating can be so exhausting. I thought about cancelling because it was a bit of drive (and she’d already offered me an out with the storm), and we’d barely spoken the last few days since we’d made the plans (an anomaly to me based on my previous online dating experiences). 

Call it what you will, but there were other forces at work urging me to go, to meet this bold anomaly of a girl. So, I headed out the door in the storm and met her at Marlow’s Tavern. And that was that—I would never go on another exhausting first date again. Every day since has been like a dream I never want to wake up from. 

Sara: Today, I can only think of the fact that I’m crazy about you. 

Holly: I still can’t believe you’re mine. You are too perfect.

Sara: Whenever I look at your eyes, I have to catch my breath and remember you’re actually mine. When they smile back at me, my heart staggers with awe. And just when I think I have seen those eyes enough to look at them without effect, you focus on me and my whole body stutters beneath your gaze. I never want that feeling to go away. 

Holly: When I kiss you, nothing else matters. I’ve never been so in the moment with anything. 

Sara: When I’m with you, I always feel safe and wanted. There’s never a moment that goes by where I wish I was anywhere else. 

Holly: I’m going to love all of the sad out of you. ;)

Sara: You know, sometimes during my day, I’ll think of you, and I must pause to process my disbelief that I could be so lucky to be loved by you.

Holly: I never thought I could be so in love, but you’ve shown me I was dead wrong.

Sara: Being with you is so easy and natural, because there are no walls to break through from the get-go. You are beautiful, and these 6 months with you have been the happiest of my entire life.

Holly: I love you so much that I’m tearing up just typing this in a happy way. I’m so ridiculously lucky. I love you to the moon and back. I will spend the rest of my life making sure you are as happy as I am.

Sara: I like that you don’t tiptoe around others. You’re just you, regardless, and I find that incredibly attractive.

Holly: I have never had someone so special to me that they were with me even when they’re not. 

Sara: I love you. 

Holly: I love you.

These are just a few text messages we’ve sent each other over the years we’ve been together, and I think they speak more about us and our relationship than I ever could. These are just the ones I happened to save, and I realize now how romantically dramatic we are. People talk about true love and finding the one, and that when you know, you know. Our love is true. Holly is the one for me and when I knew, I knew.
